In teaching chant, I’ve been helped by grouping together chants of the same mode. When editing scores on Gregobase, there is a field for the mode, but there is not a way to search or select scores by mode. A handful of chants have a mode tag, but this doesn’t leverage the work already done.

Would it be possible to search by mode, just like we can by incipit or usage?

I have never had luck with any search functions but this when paired with the incipit would be helpful. For example ant Veni Sponsa is in two modes with an identical text in the Roman office.

I think it is much better to add a search feature that searches the actual mode metadata field, rather than add “mode tags” and search by tag with the mode tag. The second option duplicates the info needlessly. A search by mode is a very reasonable feature. One issue is that if we just add to the /scores.php page a section “by mode” with the ~10 necessary links, loading the pages behind these links (e.g. all pieces in mode 8) will result in a behemoth of data being handled and sent.

I would much rather have a “filter by mode” feature on the alphabetical and usage pages (/incipit.php and /usage.php)

That seems like the best way to implement it!
